What does it mean to follow Jesus? Is Christianity simply a list of rules to keep, or does God's grace mean we can live however we want? In John 5:1–18, we discover that biblical Christianity is neither legalism nor lawlessness. It is a life transformed by Jesus Christ and lived in gratitude motivated by God's grace.
In this message, “Follow Him,” Pastor Tim examines the account of Jesus healing a man who had been unable to walk for 38 years. Jesus saw his helplessness, changed his life, and called him to obey. Yet when religious leaders witnessed the miracle, they focused on their traditions rather than celebrating what Jesus had done.
This passage reminds us that when Jesus changes your life, listen to His voice and follow Him with a heart of gratitude.
In this sermon, you'll discover:
Jesus Sees Us in Our Helplessness — We cannot save ourselves or fix our sin problem, but Jesus sees us and knows our need.
Jesus Changes Us and Calls Us to Obey — God's grace doesn't give us an excuse to live however we please; it gives us greater reason to live for Him... grace.
Jesus' Word Must Matter More — Our relationship with Christ must take priority over human traditions, personal opinions, and religious expectations.
Probably the biggest indicator of whether we are following Christ is how we view people. Jesus saw the man in his need, religious leaders saw a man breaking the rules.
Whether you're exploring Christianity, struggling to understand the relationship between grace and obedience, or seeking to grow in your walk with Christ, this message will challenge you to consider an important question: Am I following Jesus, or am I simply following my own expectations of what Christianity should look like?
